Jonathan Weinhagen Named President and CEO of Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 22 – Jonathan Weinhagen has been named President and CEO of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce by the organization’s board of directors effective Oct. 10.  His appointment follows a comprehensive search following the June 30 retirement of president and CEO Todd Klingel.

Weinhagen was most recently vice president of the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, a position he has held since 2014.  He joined the Chamber in 2010 and was a key part of the team that helped turn around the organization and return it to profitability the following year.  Previous positions at the Saint Paul Chamber include regional director and member services manager.

“We are delighted to bring on a leader with Jonathan’s chamber expertise and talent,” said MRCC Board Chair Laura McCarten.  “His experience in helping re-build the Saint Paul Chamber and working to put it back on solid financial footing is impressive.  He also led economic development efforts in the chamber’s service area, and helped secure new revenue sources that allowed the organization’s board to fund new initiatives.  Jonathan’s demonstrated successes and range of experience will serve the Minneapolis Regional Chamber and our members very well.”

“I am extremely excited to join the Minneapolis Regional Chamber team.  Over the past several years, our two organizations have worked closely on issues of mutual interest, and I have admired the work Todd Klingel and the Minneapolis chamber staff in creating value for their members and the region.  For me, the new position will be an opportunity to apply my experience to an organization that represents a diverse cross-section of companies in our community.”

Prior to joining the Saint Paul Area Chamber of Commerce, Weinhagen spent 12 years working in his family’s business in St. Paul, Weinhagen Tire Co.  He also serves on the Mounds View Public Schools Board of Education, a position to which he was elected in 2015.  He is also president of the Mounds View Schools Education Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the school district.
