We are excited to announce the continuation and expansion of the Native American College Fair.
The Native American College Fair was started at Augsburg Fairview Academy in 2013 as a way to bring schools and programs to Native youth in the Twin Cities. In the past an estimated 100 attendees and 40 Colleges and Programs took part in the college fair. The MPS Indian Education and Saint Paul Indian Education programs joined the Native American College Fair in 2015 and this year we have added Indian Education at District One91, with the addition of these programs we are able to reach more students and families.
This year there will be 3 main areas, in the gym, attendees will speak with representatives from a wide variety of post-secondary institutions, job training and community programs. They will learn about college life, courses, and admission & financial aid requirements. We will also have a Financial Aid Room where students and their families can learn about Financial Aid options, including the Minnesota Indian Scholarship Program, and get assistance in submitting their FAFSA application. Finally we will have a Career Room, utilizing the financial literacy program Reality Store, students will visit with American Indian professionals representing a variety of career areas to learn about the expenses associated with each in order to complete a monthly budget and engage volunteers with career-type questions.
The college fair is free and open to the public, attendees will include students, their families and community members. A healthy light meal and door prizes will be available for attendees.
